Job description
QA / QC Technician – Food Manufacturing
Taunton, Somerset
Part-time | From £15.50 per hour
Big on detail? Serious about food safety? We’ve got quality on the menu.
gap personnel are recruiting on behalf of a reputable, family-owned food production business for a QA / QC Technician to help keep food safety and product quality standards high.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being out on the production floor, working with people and making sure things are done properly. You’ll have the confidence to flag an issue, the curiosity to investigate it and the attention to detail to spot something others might miss.
A part-time role with real responsibility
You’ll work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 1.45pm to 10pm.
You may also be required to work one Saturday in every five, usually 9am–4pm, with a day off in lieu. Saturday hours can vary.
What’s on your checklist?
Working with both raw and cooked chicken in temperature-controlled environments, you’ll help ensure products are safe, consistent and produced to the required specifications.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Production checks: checking product weights, temperatures and specifications, and ensuring critical control points are followed.
- Food safety and hygiene: completing daily checks, weekly swabbing and internal audits, including GMP and glass and brittle materials.
- Equipment checks: checking and calibrating scales, temperature probes and other monitoring equipment.
- Paperwork and labelling: preparing production labels, reviewing completed records and reporting non-conformances.
- Sampling and results: collecting samples, preparing laboratory paperwork, downloading data logger information and monitoring trends.
- Audits and traceability: supporting customer visits, audits, traceability exercises and complaint investigations.
- Team support: working closely with production and management to resolve issues and maintain standards.
More than ticking boxes
Good quality assurance means understanding what’s happening on the floor and helping people get it right. We’re looking for someone approachable and thorough, who can communicate clearly and speak up when something needs attention.
What will you bring?
- Experience in quality assurance or quality control within manufacturing or food production
- Knowledge of HACCP and its practical application
- An understanding of BRC accreditation requirements
- Strong organisational skills and accurate record keeping
- Confidence communicating with colleagues across departments
- A proactive approach to investigating and resolving problems
- Willingness to handle raw and cooked chicken and work in chilled environments
Relevant qualifications in quality assurance or food safety are desirable, but practical experience and the right approach are equally valued.
What’s in it for you?
- From £15.50 per hour
- A part-time position with set weekday shifts
- Company pension
- Free on-site parking
- A friendly, family-owned working environment
- The opportunity to make a visible difference to food safety and product quality
A countryside setting — your own transport is essential
The site is in a rural location near Taunton, and public transport is unsuitable for the shift times. You’ll need your own reliable transport.
Ready to put your quality skills to work?
If you take pride in getting the details right and want to join a team where your contribution matters, we’d love to hear from you.
