Job description

NPD Technologist
Somerset | Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000

Enjoy developing new products and seeing your ideas make it into production?

We’re recruiting an NPD Technologist to join an established manufacturing business in Somerset. This is a varied, hands-on role offering involvement in the full product development process, from initial customer brief through to commercial launch.

Working closely with technical, commercial and production teams, you’ll develop new formulations, improve existing products and help turn customer requirements into practical, commercially viable solutions.

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing new products in response to customer briefs and market opportunities.
  • Creating samples, carrying out trials and refining formulations.
  • Assessing ingredients and raw materials for quality, functionality and cost.
  • Supporting factory trials and transferring products into full-scale production.
  • Coordinating product testing and reviewing results to identify improvements.
  • Maintaining accurate specifications, development records and technical documentation.
  • Ensuring developments meet relevant food safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing multiple projects and keeping colleagues informed of progress.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have practical product development experience within food, beverages or a related manufacturing environment, supported by a relevant degree or equivalent qualification.

An understanding of formulation, ingredient functionality and manufacturing processes is essential, alongside strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

You’ll enjoy solving technical problems, contributing ideas and working collaboratively to deliver successful products. Experience of factory trials, scale-up and shelf-life testing would be an advantage.

What’s on offer

  • The opportunity to take products from concept through to launch.
  • A varied role with scope to contribute your ideas.
  • A collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunities to build your technical knowledge and develop professionally.
