Join Our Estates & Facilities Team

Gap personnel has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Estates Officer to join the Estates and Facilities Division at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.

This is a fast-paced and rewarding role where you will work closely with the Works Manager, Head of Estates, Estates Managers, and Compliance Manager to ensure the delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient estates services across the hospital site. You will play a key role in supporting the maintenance and development of healthcare facilities that directly impact patient care and staff wellbeing.

The Role

As an Estates Officer, you will be responsible for leading and managing directly employed maintenance staff and specialist contractors, ensuring the effective delivery of electrical, mechanical, and building fabric maintenance services.

You will support the management of hard FM contracts, oversee workforce performance, and help maintain a safe, comfortable, and fully compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and motivate a large maintenance team and specialist contractors.
  • Ensure maintenance works are delivered within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Manage directly employed labour resources to maximise efficiency and productivity.
  • Support performance monitoring of internal teams and outsourced hard FM contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and health and safety requirements.
  • Prepare maintenance programmes, plant replacement schedules, and technical reports.
  • Manage devolved budgets in line with Standing Financial Instructions.
  • Develop and maintain robust systems, processes, and governance arrangements.
  • Drive continuous improvement and standardisation of Estates & Facilities procedures.
  • Conduct annual staff appraisals (PADRs) and support personal development planning.
  • Lead training and development initiatives for estates staff.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives aligned with NHS strategies and objectives.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and experienced estates professional with strong leadership skills and a proven ability to manage maintenance services within a complex operational environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing building, engineering, or estates maintenance services.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety legislation, and maintenance best practice.
  • Experience managing contractors and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Budget management and financial accountability experience.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and maintenance schedules.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

  • Previous NHS or healthcare estates experience.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance standards and facilities management systems.
  • Relevant technical qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, or Facilities Management.
